Suffering, War, and the Semiotics of Passions

[English]

Recent research and approaches in semiotics offers context-based rather than text-based Analyses. Thus, semiotics goes beyond the realm of language and psychology to rely on epistemological foundations in order to analyze narrative signs. Referring to this, we explore the acting subject which works on the states of narrative expressions in order to change them and broaden their field of interpretation. We aim to explain, through the semiotics of passions, the procedure of suffering and trauma in the context of war in the narrative texts. To this end, we cite four narrative passages, extracted from Écoutez nos défaites (Hear our Defeats) by Laurent Gaudé and Check-point by Jean-Christophe Rufin, which allow us to grasp in depth the feelings of the characters who were victims of those events, by applying works of Greimas, Fontanille and Eco as theoretical framework of our research.
